2025年6月23日,《金融时报》消息,英国咨询业高管Andy Baldwin在竞逐安永全球负责人失利后,选择加入IBM,这再次印证了美国科技巨头对“四大”高管的青睐

这位曾主导安永咨询业务分拆计划却功败垂成的“设计师”,将于当地时间2025年6月30日正式出任IBM咨询的普通管理合伙人。新职位即他在落选安永全球CEO一年半以后,转而为安永的竞争对手拓展业务。

直至2024年夏天,Baldwin于安永卸任前的五年间,作为客户服务全球管理合伙人的Baldwin,一直是"珠峰计划"(Project Everest)的核心推手。该计划主张通过分拆使安永咨询业务摆脱审计客户利益冲突规则的限制——这些规则严格制约着该公司为大型科技企业提供的服务。

然而押注这一战略的Baldwin,最终在CEO竞选中败给了美国籍的Janet Truncale。他于去年12月离职。

Mohamed Ali在宣布任命的内部备忘录中说到"咨询业正面临重塑。并盛赞Baldwin"兼具科技与商业洞察力的卓越履历,堪称行业先驱"。安永60岁强制退休年龄的规定,客观上阻碍了Baldwin的CEO之路——若当选,他将在四年任期中途达到退休年龄。据《金融时报》披露,Baldwin曾警告同事,相关制度可能违反英国反年龄歧视法。

Baldwin是IBM近半年挖角的第二位四大高管。去年十月,前普华永道(PwC)美国咨询业务联席主管Neil Dahl加盟IBM出任全球管理合伙人,并于四月升任美国咨询业务负责人。

咨询业务现为IBM仅次于软件的第二大板块,每年通过IT现代化、系统集成和业务流程外包创造近210亿美元收入,规模与安永咨询业务相当。其客户群既涵盖四大会计师事务所,也包含埃森哲(Accenture)等管理咨询同行。

Andy Baldwin, a British consulting executive who lost his race to become EY's global boss, joined IBM in another example of a US technology group employing senior figures from the Big Four.

Baldwin, the failed architect trying to spin off EY's advisory arm, will become IBM Consulting's general management partner, the company announced Monday.

This role will lead him to grow and deliver services for Big EY competitors a year and a half after he placed second to become the global chief executive of the big four companies.

Baldwin, 58, showed his return to the company he worked for for two years in the early 200os, opening additional chapters on his consulting career for over30 years, and spent mostly with EY in the rest of the day.

For five years until last summer, as a global managing partner in client services, he was the driving force behind Project Everest, a plan to spin-off EY's consulting business. He argued that EY should be freed from conflict of interest rules that strictly limit the work that can be done at large tech companies. Most of them are EYaudit clients.

However, paid for this plan, Baldwin lost to American Janet Transcale from his favorites to run EY. He left work in December.

“The consulting industry is poised to reinvent,” IBM Consulting boss Muhammad Ali said in an internal memo announcing Baldwin's appointment, calling him “a clear ability to integrate technology and business expertise with an unparalleled track record industry pioneer.”

EY's 60-year-old forced retirement age complicated Baldwin's pitch tobecome CEO as he hit that milestone midway through his four-year term. The Financial Times reported that Baldwin warned his colleagues that their deliberations could violate the UK's age discrimination laws.

Baldwin is the second Big 4 executive who joined the company in October and was hired in the role of global managing partner by IBM, the successor to Neildahl, who was appointed head of IBM consulting in the United States in April. Dhar was previously co-head of consulting for PWC US.

Consulting is IBM's second largest division after software, bringing nearly $21 billion in annual revenue from IT modernization, systems integration and business process outsourcing to roughly the same size as EY's advisory business.

IBM counts Big Four Accounting Firms, Management Consultants, and expertise consultants, including competitors Accenture.
