The film recounts the true story of 1942, when a Japanese vessel carrying 1,800 British prisoners of war sank near Zhoushan off China's east coast. Local fishermen risked their lives to save hundreds of men. Gerry Borge, whose father and uncle both survived, said the film's powerful and meticulously recreated scenes left him deeply moved. He stressed the importance of sharing this story widely, so that more people can recognize the depth of human compassion. "They didn't need to go out and save the people, but they did. They chose to, despite the fact that there were many reasons why they shouldn't. But they still decided to go there and give their lives or put up their lives to save these people, so I'm very grateful to them. Every day I should really think about that group," Borge told CGTN Europe.
