It can lead to liver cancer and remains a major global health concern. According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 254 million people were living with chronic hepatitis B in 2022, with around 1.2 million new infections each year.Understanding how HBV spreads is key to prevention. The virus can be transmitted through childbirth, contaminated blood products, and sexual contact, said Mao Yilei, a professor at Peking Union Medical College Hospital in Beijing.
