Lionel Andrés Messi is an Argentine professional soccer player who has been playing for the Spanish club FC Barcelona since 2004. He is widely acclaimed as the greatest player of all time and has won various accolades including six Ballon d'Or awards and a record-tying five European Golden Shoes.

Messi was born on June 24th, 1987 in Rosario, Argentina. He started playing soccer at a very young age and was quickly recognized by the local club, Newell's Old Boys. In 2000, he joined the youth academy of FC Barcelona, where he quickly became the star of the team.
